Everton and Liverpool linked with Valencia schemer

Merseyside giants in transfer tussle for Los Che midfielder after he reveals he wants to leave

Blues boss David Moyes is ready to renew his interest in the 22-year-old having almost signed him in 2009 until work permit issues prevented the move being sealed, but this is unlikely to stop another approach for the player who now wants out of Valencia – news that has sparked interest from Liverpool.

Banega joined Valencia from Boca Juniors in 2008 for €18 million,   but he failed to establish himself in the side and was subsequently loaned to Atletico Madrid for the 2008-09 season, on his return to Los Ches it appeared he was set for a switch to Everton but the transfer fell through.

Having grown frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities at Mestalla he has told his agent, Marcelo Simonian, to begin searching for a new club, according to Spanish daily Las Provincias.

But with the Toffees facing mounting debts, Moyes’ hands could be tied leaving the way clear for Liverpool, and clubs in Italy and Spain, to hold talks with the midfielder.
